Looking for a way to view and manage important notifications while minimizing interruptions while you teach, work, or go about your day?

Today’s Tip:

Notifications alert you to many things on your iPad, including, but not limited to, incoming messages, new emails and calendar invitations, and site updates. While notifications may work differently for each app, they can be easily customized to your preferences.

Access the Notification Center by swiping down from the top of your screen. This is only one way to receive notifications. You can also receive alerts that show up on the top of the screen (banners), as little red circles or numbers that appear over an app icon (badges), and as sounds, all customizable from within your iPad Settings.

To customize your notifications:

  1. Tap Settings on your iPad home screen.
  2. Tap Notifications from the menu of options.
  3. From the list on the right, choose the app that you’d like to update its notifications.
  4. Toggle the “Allow Notifications” to enable or disable notifications.
  5. When enabled, alert settings are shown.
    1. Where do you want the notification to show up? Turn on or off the locations – Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners
    2. If you choose Banners, you can identify whether the banner is there temporarily or until you dismiss it (persistent).
    3. Do you want a sound to be made with each notification?
    4. Do you want to see a badge, a little red circle or number, over an app icon for each notification?
    5. On the lock screen, do you want to see a preview of the notification? Do you want to group notifications, possibly automatically or by app?

Being able to customize notifications can reduce distractions for users who have difficulty focusing. It also allows users to have notifications available on the lock screen, so that they can reduce the amount of physical effort (taps, etc.) it takes to be aware of incoming information.
