Need to connect your Apple Pencil to your device? Have a dead Pencil?  Trying to write with your Pencil, but it seems unresponsive?

Today’s Tip:

Your Apple Pencil can be a valuable tool in being able to produce work on your iPad, but requires some initial setup.

How to Pair Your Apple Pencil and iPad

  1. Remove the cap of your Apple Pencil (the eraser side).
  2. Plug the end into your Lightning port at the bottom of your iPad.
  3. When the Pair button appears, tap it.

Note: You may need to re-pair your Apple Pencil and iPad if you restart your iPad, turn on Airplane Mode, or pair your Pencil with another device.

How to Charge Your Apple Pencil

This is really easy to do! Just like the pairing instructions above:

  1. Remove the cap of your Apple Pencil.
  2. Plug it into the Lightning Port on your iPad.

Your Apple Pencil will charge quickly when plugged in. Adding the Batteries widget to your device can be a great way to check how much power is left on your Pencil. Check out the email or blog post from last Thursday on Widgets and Daily Use to set this up!

How to Handle an Unresponsive Apple Pencil

Your Apple Pencil should be ready to write when you pick it up, but sometimes it might be unresponsive. If your Pencil is unresponsive and charged, check its connection through your Settings:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select Bluetooth from the menu on the left.
  3. Make sure the Bluetooth toggle at the top of the menu is toggled on.
  4. All devices you have connected should appear on the right. If you see “Not Connected” next to Apple Pencil, plug in your Pencil to the Lightning port.
