Need help with creating easy video content for your class?
Today’s Tip
The Screen Recording feature on your iPad allows you to easily record your audio and anything you do on your iPad screen. By activating your recorder, you can:
- Walk your students through difficult equations
- Show students how to successfully navigate through tutorials or websites
- Annotate particularly hard chunks of literature live
- Deliver content in various formats, which supports student preferences and comprehension
The options are endless! Whatever you do on your iPad can be recorded and shared with your students or peers.
Adding the Screen Recorder Function to Control Center
You can add the Screen Recorder function to your Control Center.
- Open the Settings app.
- On the left-hand side, scroll down and tap on Control Center.
- If you don’t see Screen Recording in your Included Controls, scroll down and find it within the ‘More Controls” list.
- Tap the green plus sign to the left of Screen Recording to move it into your Control Center.
Setting your Screen Recorder Settings
- Swipe down from the top right corner of your iPad. The Control Center appears.
- You should see a button at the bottom that looks like a target. This is the Screen Recorder.
- Storage Location: Hold the button down to see where the screen recordings will be stored. It may default to save your recordings in Photos. If you would like to select another location, scroll through the options and select another option.
- Below the location screen will be a microphone button. If the Microphone button isn’t red, tap the button to turn the microphone on.
Note: You need the microphone on to record audio. This step is very important!
Recording using Screen Recorder
Note: Everything on your screen, including notifications, will be recorded. It may be helpful to use the Do Not Disturb or Airplane mode features to minimize distractions.
- When you are ready to record, tap the Start Recording button. It will give you a three second countdown and then it will begin recording everything on your screen. Click the Home button on your iPad to return to your Home screen and open any app you would like to record.
- From here you can start using the iPad to film content.
- When you are finished recording, look for the small red button in the top right corner of the iPad (near the battery percentage). Tap the small red button.
- A dialog screen will appear in the center of your screen. Tap Stop.
- On the top of the iPad, you will receive a message that says your screen recording has been saved to the location you chose earlier.
Note: For those wanting a stronger audio experience: It is helpful to pair a set of wireless headphones to your iPad before you begin recording. The iPad microphone is fairly strong, but the headphones will cut out some of the room noise while you’re recording.
